Allgemeine Geschäftsbedingungen (AGB) — Last updated: March 2026

1. Scope and Provider

These Terms of Service govern the use of the website and services provided at schach.ai. By accessing or using the platform, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please refrain from using the service.

The service is operated by:

2. Service Description

schach.ai is an educational chess platform designed for children. The service provides interactive chess lessons, puzzles, story-driven adventure modes, and AI-assisted learning through a virtual mentor character. The platform is accessible via modern web browsers and does not require software installation.

3. Target Audience and Parental Responsibility

The service is primarily intended for children. Parents or legal guardians are responsible for supervising their children's use of the platform. By allowing a child to use the service, the parent or guardian agrees to these terms on the child's behalf.

4. Account Registration (Future Feature)

Currently, schach.ai does not require account registration. All game progress is stored locally in the user's browser. If user accounts are introduced in the future, additional terms may apply. Users will be notified of any changes to these terms.

5. Free and Paid Services

The basic features of schach.ai are currently provided free of charge. Premium features or subscription plans may be introduced in the future. Any paid features will be clearly indicated, and users will be informed of pricing before any purchase is made. Payment processing for future subscriptions will be handled by a third-party payment provider.

6. Right of Use

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to access and use the platform for personal, non-commercial, educational purposes. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, or otherwise exploit the service's content, software, or design without prior written consent.

7. User Obligations

Users agree to use the platform only for its intended educational purpose. Users must not attempt to disrupt, overload, or manipulate the service, use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the platform, or exploit vulnerabilities or bugs in the software. We reserve the right to restrict access if these obligations are violated.

8. Intellectual Property

All content, design, graphics, characters (including the AI mentor “Chester the Wizard”), software code, and other materials on schach.ai are the intellectual property of the service provider unless otherwise stated. The Stockfish chess engine is open-source software used under its respective licence. Puzzle content may be sourced from publicly available databases.

9. Availability and Maintenance

We aim to provide the service with high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or technical issues. We are not liable for any loss of data or functionality caused by temporary outages or browser-related storage issues.

10. Limitation of Liability

The service is provided “as is” without any warranty, express or implied. We are liable only for damages caused by intentional or grossly negligent conduct. Liability for slight negligence is limited to breaches of essential contractual obligations, and in such cases, liability is limited to foreseeable, typical damages. This limitation does not apply to damages arising from injury to life, body, or health.

11. Data Protection

The handling of personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the Privacy Policy.

12. Termination

You may stop using the service at any time. Since no account registration is currently required, you can simply stop visiting the website and clear your browser's local storage to remove all saved data. If accounts or subscriptions are introduced, specific termination and cancellation procedures will be communicated at that time.

13. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms of Service at any time. Changes will be published on this page. If material changes are made, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users. Continued use of the service after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). For consumers within the European Union, mandatory consumer protection provisions of the consumer's country of residence shall apply where they provide greater protection.

15. Severability Clause

If any provision of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision shall be replaced by a valid provision that most closely reflects the original intent.
